Looking back

I've been doing some much needed introspection now and can safely conclude that I want to make my life as eventful as those wonderful days of childhood, where I lived a life, free of all worries and troubles, knowing not more than the blue sunlight sky, the evergreen meadows of seemingly carefully trimmed expansive lawns and the odd rocky rivulets flowing between them! I wanted to grow up and see the world then, not knowing the tremendous displeasure that it would bring about in my life!

Beetles, Beegees and Leo Sayer, did their magic back then, always adding to the luxury of childhood and the blissful nothingness that was associated with it! Childhood was greenery and expansive blue spread forever with hues of unconditionally soft white, if you know what that means, meant rather!

I step back to think about those Sunday afternoons and Monday mornings often not being very different from each other, barring the place of presence, them being home and school respectively. The excitement was feverishly fearful to those around me!

Tell me what I've done that I'm here now, as the one that I am, far from those wonderful days of pure joy? Why, I wonder, does the child always feel better to be a man? It's not for bloody nuts that Floyd sang "The Child has grown and the dream has gone."

Another sorry tale of the grass being green on the other side? Nay, for I've seen it all and lived it too, and am sure the parallel will someday come!

Footnotes:

My quest for purpose is intense and you will see more of these 'looking back' instances!

  1. Well... sometimes life is so confusing I wish some one would just come down and solve it for me. But that's not going to happen. Maybe that's why we have memories. So that we can look back at all those happy times!

  4. I guess that's the nature of our minds.. making comparisons and a tendency to remember happier things..
but yes, a child wants to grow up and when he/she does, thinks, this is not what I had imagined.. another case of leaky abstractions (like Joel put it) I think..

  5. Be a child, always...don't think about past, present and future...then you are succesful with the business of life....

A person, who once travelled with me advised that....when I said i moreoften laugh at life and am not very serious with it, except when I take a stock of things...

Its better not to take stock of anything...its not easy not doing that...and if you do, make sure you write it out and clear your mind of all that stuff..and be a child again...

You definitely will feel the difference Rak....and thats one reason why my poems may seem sad/distressing while I am mostly cheerful! :)

  6. I thought life gets better and better every year (It did, when I was young), but then....... At least now we realize how much our parents would have struggled!

  7. When I was a kid, I thought things keep getting better every year (It was back then) but suddenly!!! But then only now we realize how hard our parents would have worked for the fun we had :-) So, its our time now....

  8. Very interesting thought there Rakesh. Everyone talks abt memories of childhood but very few say they wanna be that child again. ur exceptional!

**Tell me what I've done that I'm here now, as the one that I am, far from those wonderful days of pure joy?

ur not far from em...it just seems like it, thats all. the child in u is still there...u just hv to wake him up :)

Just that when we grow up we seem to lose touch with our innocence...but thats cos we get fed with too much info. However, I always found the child in me, whenever I wanted to :)

  9. The problem of being happy with the "today" and trustful about the future, something we all are confronted with I guess. If we have nice meomories of the past, it should make us understand that "today" will soon be the past and maybe then we will look on it differently?

  10. My fv author, Virginia woolf writes - “I can only note that the past is beautiful because one never realizes an emotion at the time. It expands later, & thus we don’t have complete emotions about the present, only about the past.” So i am sure few years from now, you will chreish even the today, as you discuss it with your friends of now. We miss childhood from what we know today about life, but not by what we knew then.

  12. Ho man. yea too true.

yet....there r people who hvn't had such good times yet. have u thot of giving some pr child a good childhood?? If u look really..really deep in ur heart..U can afford to do it, rite??

To jus pay for his school education. How much wud that cost? 1/3rd of ur entire yearly salary?

I dont really mean to point a finger at u. This is a general statement for everybody.

Yeah, our minds are constantly looking for an ideal state and hence the number of comparisons and trackbacks!

I will need to read about Leaky Abstractions, sounds good!

Even Nitya Guru said that always that its important to be like a child who worries not about the past or the future
Not a lot of us can maintain such a composure and conduct life!

Its takes sheer guts, discipline and dedication!

Life is a constant stage for change, is it not?
Thankfully, our Parents, like you said, have made it very comfortable for us, and without them, we'd been off track a long time! Yes, it is our time now to give them the very best

    Cheers

    Thanks!

I always want to remain a child and so keep the child in me alive and kicking!

Someday, I'd go back to the hills and find true bliss, which is apart from anything outside of me! Hopefully!
