What will you do?

This is very different from all of my previous posts, every single one of them!

Here, unlike before, I'm seeking your opinion, rather your ideas which will be invaluable to me as I attempt to shape my future, some kind of a gauging the pulse activity! So, considering the nature of this post, it is my request that you spend sometime in thought and be sure to give me your thoughts, no matter what.

Take a good look at your résumé, which I'm sure elucidates your accolades and testimonials of the number of years that you've been working. Now, take a good look at yourself.

Does ambition drive you? What is that you truly want to do? I'm asking this question in consideration of your jobs, those that help you sustain a livelihood, more importantly, those which appeal to your intellect and further it a great deal.

What would you want to do? Be a visionary entrepreneur and lay the foundations for a world class organization that is highly process oriented? For instance Indiblogger, which was founded by Renie?

Or, do you aspire to be a highly successful leader in a corporate entity and equal the ranks of prominences such as Sushim Mukul Dutta, Jack Welsh, Larry Page and the likes?

Maybe some of you are driven and motivated by eminent people in politics and bureaucracy, such as Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hillary Clinton, Edward Kennedy, Angela Merkel and so on, and would like to see yourselves in similar positions in the coming times.

For some others, musicians, sports persons, artists or actors may serve as a guiding light in inspiring themselves to be what they want to!

Tell me, every single one of you, what is it that you want to be? What is the vision that drives you forward?

Cliched still, but relevant, I ask, where do you see yourselves in the coming years?

Footnotes:

And as they say, no idea or suggestion is bad, so do not hold yourself back due to an assumption that what you intend to say is trivial and thus worthless. I can assure you that it will not be so!

Please ensure that you leave me with your thoughts, no matter however inconsequential they may seem to you. Should you feel uncomfortable leaving an opinion in the comments section, do send me an email and I'll be sure to respond!

  1. haha! Rak, don't kick me out for the first one and to be commenting so!

I see myself growing more old, working in some way or other for a livelihood, cooking food for whoever comes to dine, washing dishes, clothes, cleaning the house...then a bit of gardening, reading and dreaming, and all those finer and not so finer aspects of life.....

& then one fine day stepping out of here!

really, i don't see anything happening to me other than this because I DON'T WANT ANY OTHER THING TO HAPPEN TO ME! (IF I WERE TO PLAN MY LIFE)

now, having said that I always looks for unexpected turns in life that makes me feel alive...that could be good or bad...And I wish they affect only me, not others! :)

  2. Now let me add this, if this gives an impression I am a typical Indian housewife, one could be terribly wrong! :)

rest, one is free to judge according to one's prudence! (afterall one can only do so, even otherwise :)

let me add this: I HATE PEOPLE JUDGING OTHERS...SO ITS IN MY NATURE TO CONFUSE...ever since I was a teenager (and i still remain somwhere there, at heart)! :)

  6. Hmm.. the kind of person I am, nothing drives me so my comments are rather inconsequential in these matters. There are people like me in this world too.. devoid of ambition but they do make castles in the air off and on ... of leading just a 'normal' life.. as in what the world calls normal.. if you get my drift .. I see myself in a bigger pit in next few years.. and that thought stimulates me to sink deeper..
makes sense? why should one have ambitions .. why can't we just take every day as it comes languidly and leave it to fate or time.. whatever is the right word.

I am sorry for this silly comment .. but then you asked to write even something as worthless as this.. my suggestion is kindly ignore my comment :) take care..

  7. I try my best to align my life's direction towards making a positive contribution to humanity. This directly implies that I haven't achived anything in life yet, although I console myself saying that I am only studying now. I want to make a change in this world, make a better world and I strongly believe that the largest contribution for any cause comes from the person on the top, the leader, therfore I shall sincerely want to be there. I hope I made some sense.

  8. I don’t have any ambition carrier wise; and I know where I lead so, so I just want to live my existence to its full stretch. There’re so many wishes and interest that puts me on process, but I don’t go into anything on serious intention.

I want to live up to my thoughts and I’m trying hard to be, and one of it is to see that humans are treated as humans, keeping away whatever that separates us.
I always want to become an agriculturist and make certain our country sustain as an important source in agriculture and it gains more grains than lost to least sustain.

  9. I want to be one of the guys of whom the future generations will say- 'gee I want to be like him'. :)

  10. i want to be the guy who spends his days (and nights) as his mood allows him to and still be able to live a comfortable life with my family and provide them with everything they want!

the more you plan stuff, the more you spend your lifetime planning for something that has a 50 50 chance of not happening. so i find living life as it comes, is what i like.

i also want to grow old, try out a crazy cocktail once and grow a rajasthani moustache and ride my dad's 20yrs old bajaj chetak scooter.

    :)

  11. Aaah ! that one question that drives me nuts !!! I have been thinking about this for a while now. What am I doing? What is it that I want to be? Am I really happy with the way Im now?

and Im not kidding, Im unhappy with all the answers. Everything is fine in my professional life, I work for a reasonably good company, get paid decently, and I have good colleagues and surprisingly a good boss. But Im still unhappy !! Now if you ask me what I really want to be in life, I would want to do something that I love, something that I have a passion for - Singing. I have no idea how good I am at it, but I really would to try it as a profession. But then, it involves a lot of thinking and risks. I just cant leave what Im doing now and chase my dreams. No, its not that I cant, its that I wont. Im afraid to. Oh shit, Im afraid to chase my dreams ! Oh no, Rakesh, what have you done to me now !!!

  12. For me job is just a way of sustaining my life and nothing more than. All i need in life is not to be filthy rich or not to be utterly poor. Peace and quite enjoy every moment of my life in a leisurely way. I want to die knowing that everyone loves me. money, power, position doesnt matter a bit to me.

  13. Dude, it is quite difficult to explain :)

  15. Actually I just wanna be happy in the future :)
Now what constitutes true happiness is something I don't know, for now. But yeah, I guess that's what I shall pursue in the years to come. If that mean entails becoming a visionary entreprenuer or a successful leader, so be it!

  16. I want to be that visionary leader... someone who can start of a massive enterprise and set example for the youth to come out and explore themselves.

I'm very glad to note that you have everything so simply put and that you do not want to plan things in life, which is reasonable!

  37. I want to be seen as unconventional and different.. I quite freely take risks and I always want to be able to take risks. For example, for developing that technical website (excitingip.com), I have taken a break for 5-6 months and doing it full time. I may or may not get the intended results, but the fun is in taking the risks (for me). Now, I am planning to apply for jobs in Coimbatore when everyone wants to come to Bangalore! I want my job to follow me... I would not follow it! That's one thing that I can do in my profession and I hope that I take even more risks in my life (here on) without having to struggle that much for roti, kapda, makaan aur bandwidth - which are the only necessities for me!!

  38. I have a strong belief in destiny - In it's certainty and uncertainty. I live one day at a time trying to move ahead one step towards my goal. One dream at a time. Life is a pool of opportunities and your have the right to choose them on the go. I do not compare my self to any other successful person in the world. I believe in the saying - If you cannot be a star in the sky, be a lamp at home. And then there's this thing, good work and dedication will always fetch you success in every feat you attempt.
