"We build our computer systems the way we build our cities, over time, without a plan and on top of ruins."
-- Ellen Ullman
Mumbai is many multitudes intricately woven into one! It is a system more than a place, one which is extremely fast paced, chaotic, frenzied yet interesting! Living up to its ominous reputation, it is a city that never sleeps or pauses as the world saw during the grim incidents of 26/11 last year.

It's intricately woven roads, snaking in between layered over bridges and sky hugging buildings makes one feel that even the lifeless is full of constant life. It is a city of stark contradictions, of extreme poverty and supreme opulence laid right next to one another, and in utterly happy coexistence.
Huge milling crowds that could rival a division of soldiers makes one feel the superficial purpose of human continuance with which aim every human sets foot into this seeming bewilderment!
Woes are a plenty, especially when one is on the road, set to reach a destination! What would otherwise be a journey of a few minutes could well take up an hour due to the absolutely chaotic traffic which moves at lesser than snail's pace! And if you are one of those people who'd be overwhelmed by the sight of a few thousand people and pondering how easy or difficult it is to jostle and rub shoulders on a walk, you better think twice before calling Mumbai your destination!
lol... nice post on mumbai :P and yes.. its pretty chaotic.... but i think everyone must go there just once :)
ReplyDeleteYe he Mumbai mere jaan. Nice post. and Nice narration.
ReplyDeleteCheers,

I have been in Mumbai only for a few days, Rak..But I LOVE the city...and its people...
ReplyDeletePerhaps its oldest commercial city, people are more more realistic and have a more humane spirit...unlike Delhi...
I must say I hate the city for its high share of Snobs and acerbic public...Its hard to live among them without giving back their due...
BUT for my nature and culture I hold back..BUT then THERE ARE LIMITS TO IT...and I would react at times, with my subtle sarcasm...BUT the dumbs as they are -- they fail to get my tone! :)
anyway, I ended up giving a commentary on Delhi --I love this city --not its people...
In case of Mumbai -i LOVE both -- city and the people..Big cities have a charm :)
been to Mumbai recently??
wishes,
devika
Oh Rak, if my Delhi friends see this..I sure am going to have my dose...
ReplyDeleteWhen I said I hate the city -- meant the ones on the roads..mostly selfish..and unruly...
Else, I have quite a good number of good friends in Delhi...and I value them much :)
devika
I will definitely make it to Mumai one day... to see all the aspects of it!

ReplyDeleteYes, Mumbai is an appealing place, no doubt! It has a certain charm within itself and I liked it most among the 3 metros that I've been to!
But the crowds, the fast pace and all that.......phew, I'd rather be a visitor!
