Staying with Sundays, this time around, a question in a life column of a certain newspaper foxed me!
The inquisitive enquirer wondered why hard work and unending toil was necessary if every aspect of life was controlled by God and the measure of outcome was already decided to be dished out not a pint more than the allotted proportion that came at the discretion of the Creator! In other words, destiny!
Intriguing question I thought, following the after thought that such questions almost always never have a good answer! Have you noticed?
Now, this set me wondering! I recollected Lord Krishna's advice to a perplexed Arjuna while on battlefield, that humanity is a certain phase that will bring to an end every person living, but that does not mean that one engages in squander of time, considering the certain end that one will approach!
He further cited that a person needs to employ oneself in order to satiate many needs and most importantly keep off from the thought of mortality!
Anyhow, scriptures apart, aren't we, as human beings, supposed to be creators of our own destiny? Life comes with a minimal guarantee that focused effort will yield desired results, doesn't it? And that of the unexplained bit, I'd like it to be associated with Karma!
I do not in any measure will to batter the poor seeker! Who knows what he must have been through in life to ask something so solemn, which brings me to remember Brian Tracy's famous quote "Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation."
Yup, I know the question that he asked but I do believe that an individual given any circumstances has a choice to choose his destiny over his fate.

ReplyDeleteTry creating yours and tell me in around 10 years..."if we both are alive"!!
See Rak, man only has the capacity to think that "HE CAN"..what happens in the end is destiny!
I BELIEVE IF A LEAF TURNS..ITS DESTINED SO..THAT'S WHY...WIND IS JUST A TOOL!

I've often thought along the same lines. In Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks says in the end, "maybe we all have a destiny or maybe we are all floating around like a feather in the wind; maybe it's both!"
ReplyDeletei think my dstiny is alrdy written...i cant change it...u see its easier to put d blame on someone then :P
ReplyDeleteI love the ingenuity of the guy who asked the question..
ReplyDeleteBut destiny is a thing that depends on our karma..
'It is written by God,
But it is rewritten by us'
What wud've happened if all those artists, sportsmen and leaders had deided to sit idle and wait for the destiny to reveal itself ?:D
Beautiful and inspirational post!

I think so too.
And as u said towards the end of the post, it is essential that we r grateful for whatever stages we r in life, cos w.o. the good AND the bad, we will never progress.

if destiny is
ReplyDeletethen we will be destined to question the way we do and get predetermined answers!

ReplyDeleteIt is imperative that one works towards destiny, although things may already be preordained!

ReplyDeleteYes, perhaps you are right but then if one shuns away from things that one needs to do then how can one achieve one's destiny!
I don't mean to say that U endorse the view that destiny is bound to happen and so one need not do a thing about it, but then how does one see all this and do his / her bit of Karma?

ReplyDeleteshunning away -- who is shunny away??
I can't even agree with the terminology..."Achieving destiny" -- Believe me, destiny achieves itself and that exactly is what is called destiny! You don't have to jump into actions..thinking thats your destiny and then feel frustrated about it all!
"I don't mean to say that U endorse the view that destiny is bound to happen and so one need not do a thing about it, but then how does one see all this and do his / her bit of Karma?"
Karma is not about doing all that you think is needed to do....moments reveal itself, when we would know what to do and what not to do!
I think my actions shouldn't bring pain to someone else....Allow some time, let truth reveal itself,
I believe we as community share a common destiny...and we should be responsible in our actions....not be self-centered, or biased in our deeds,

ReplyDeletePerhaps, as you say, destiny is itself destined and that us human beings cannot have much of a say towards wanting to make it happen!
But sometimes I wonder why some people are what they are and some people are not what they are!
Its perhaps not so easy to comprehend after all!
